Being Santa is great, but being Mum is better

Around this time of year, I can’t help but feel a little bit of added pressure. Whether that be financially, or the worries of having not spent enough time with family and will someone be upset in the process of the Christmas Day rush around? Do I have to attend every festive night out when my social calendar is bursting at the seams?

I’m all about Christmas spirit, spreading cheer and having fun, but not at the expense of mental health and general well being. It IS hard not to be sucked into the Christmas marketing campaigns and want to spend money like it’s going out of fashion to create a “perfect Christmas” But maybe take a moment and reflect on what is perfect for you. There’s a whole lot of value in spending time with loved ones.

Please don’t put yourself under financial pressure at this time of year. Is it worth it? To hit January will a pile of debt and misery?

I have made a point this year of not letting myself get too focussed on what other people are doing or wearing at Christmas. It’s hard not to want the sparkliest of outfits and the tinseliest of trees. We all have our own traditions and for us this year, it’s family focussed.

Lastly, if you are a Mum at Christmas, maybe discuss family plans in advance, do the Christmas shopping nice and early to budget more effectively. Think about some homemade gifts with sentimental value. Whip out that dress from last year and own it! And the likelihood of having the same outfit on as someone is WAY less! Wrap up nice and cosy and take a family stroll to your nearest park. Don’t let the guilt take over if you have to say no to things. Don’t let social media give you unrealistic expectations or added pressure. Be you, fill your home with love and laughter and that’s always going to be more than enough.

Love Kat x
